SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Genevieve Marie: As a performer, I’ve always been interested in costuming and how much work goes into making up the physical appearance of a character. When my friend told me about cosplaying, I immediately jumped on board.
SMC: What was the first convention you cosplay’d?
Genevieve Marie: San Diego Comic Con 2008. It was the first comic convention I had ever been to and I wanted to have fun with it. I’m the kind of person who jumps right into things so I created a Catwoman cosplay and headed downtown. I had a blast and I’ve never looked back since.
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
Genevieve Marie: There have been quite a few, like seeing Tom Hiddleston dressed as Loki for the Thor II panel, and watching all of the cast from Days of Future Past walk out on stage. However, a more personal moment was being able to meet one of my favourite stage and screen actors, Michael Sheen, on the convention floor. (Also, every second I get to cosplay with my sister is highly valued too).
SMC: What is your favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Genevieve Marie: Meeting with all my fans and friends. Conventions are a great place to socialize with fellow artists and people who share your interests. I always have a list of people I need to see and catch up with.
SMC: Where can fans expect to see you next? (2015 Schedule?)
Genevieve Marie: Hanadoki Con, Star Wars Celebration, Monsterpolooza, Wonder Con, Anime Expo, San Diego Comic Con
SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
Genevieve Marie: Those who have a true passion for the art, who love the characters they portray, and, most importantly, those who have fun doing it.
SMC: Which is your favorite cosplay you’ve created?
Genevieve Marie: I’d have to say Ryuko Matoi. I have the most fun as her and I relate to her personality the most.
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Genevieve Marie: Black Widow and DKR Catwoman.
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
Genevieve Marie: That’s a hard one, but probably a fully armoured version of Saber from Fate/StayNight. Either that or Black Widow’s new light-up suit from Age of Ultron.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Genevieve Marie: Classic Super Girl, Female Han Solo, Leia, and Female Viral from Gurren Lagann.
SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job? (Be specific as you like)
Genevieve Marie: I’m a performer at Disneyland (if I told you more, I’d have to put you in Disney jail ;)).
SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
Genevieve Marie: I’m trained in Kendo as well as several mixed martial arts. I also enjoy archery and hiking.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
Genevieve Marie: Most definitely anime and manga however, I really enjoy comics and movies as well.
